Taking it Overhead

Who would have thought that pressing and holding a moderately heavy weight overhead, then squatting to full depth on repeat with the weight aloft would be just about the best core exercise going? What about crunches, abs of steel, ab rollers, ab fab, et alii?

Indeed, the overhead squat's a killer and was a perfect stomping ground for my first CFB class in 12 days.

6 PM Class
w/u: 50 air squats, 2 rounds of 10 knees to elbows, PVC shoulder dislocates, snatch balances
5x5 Overhead Squats
rest 2 min
3x3 Shoulder Press
Results: 45, 55, 65, 65, 65 on o/h squats--went lighter by design; 80% of my max would have put me at 85 to start; 95, 115, 120 on shoulder presses; again, lighter by design
